Travel Hacks For International Flights

Traveling overseas can be exciting, but the preparations and limitations that you have to deal with can be frustrating. Whether you have already, booked your international flights or still need to, there are a few travel hacks that can help you have an easier trip (and preparations leading up to it).

The Water Hack

We all know that liquids aren’t allowed past security which often means we must leave our much-loved water bottles behind. Of course, you will want to have your own water on you. All you need to do is take an empty bottle with you so that you can fill it up once you have passed through security.

The Bag Packing Hack

Our travel bags never quite seem big enough and when it comes to international flights, you will probably want to take more with you. Of course, there are luggage weight restrictions to deal with.

To save on space, roll your clothes instead of folding them. Also, make sure that any electrical cables are tightly wound together so that they don’t take up unnecessary space.

If you are taking a few pairs of shoes with, don’t waste space with them. Fill your shoes with smaller items such as socks, underwear, jewelry, toiletries and similar.

The Device Charging Hack

That feeling of hopelessness one gets when they realize they have forgotten their wall plug charger for their phone, or don’t have the right adapter plugs for a foreign country, is a thing of the past. If you have a USB charger for your devices (and you really should), you can charge them via the television in your hotel. Most modern TVs have a USB port at the back…use it!

The Travel Docs Hack

The last thing you want to be doing at airports is fumbling around for documents. Another worry is that your travel documents get stolen or lost. You can safeguard yourself and save time by taking screenshots of all your travel plans and bookings.

It’s also a good idea to scan a copy of your ID and passport and keep it on your phone.

The Online Map Hack

Most travelers use the Google Maps app to find their way around a new city or country. This can be problematic if you are relying on Wi-Fi hotspots for your internet access. Obviously, you cannot have access to give directions if you are offline. Google has solved this problem with their latest version of Google Maps. Now you can save maps of your intended routes and areas to your phone and call them up later, even if you are offline.

The Toiletries Hack

Finding cheap international flights won’t seem like quite a saving if you have to spend a small fortune to brush your teeth, wash your face or take a shower at the airport. Many international airports have the facilities for these, but the 100ml restriction on liquids often means you have to buy toiletries once already at the international airport. That can be quite tough on your travel budget.

Spend some time before your trip shopping around for mini size products. Many kinds of toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and moisturizer products are now available in “travel size”. If you are worried about your checked luggage toiletries popping and leaking during the trip, simply place cling wrap under the container’s lid. No more leaks!

The Accommodation Hack

You don’t necessarily have to spend a fortune on accommodation when you book international flights. Most people assume that they are limited to expensive hotels or the much cheaper and less impressive dormitories and backpacker establishments. Airbnb is a great way to find cheap, decent accommodation in absolutely every country. You can save quite a bit if you search within your budget.

It takes time and effort to plan an international trip. While your first step is to find cheap international flights, you should spend a bit of time ensuring that you’re fully prepared for the time that you will be away from your usual comforts. We hope that these tips have helped and that your next international trip is a little easier!
